COVEGA Corporation Announces New 10/12.5 Gb/s Optical Modulator Integrated with a Variable Optical Attenuator in a Small Form Factor Package for Telecommunication Application

JESSUP, MD. — MARCH 1, 2006 — Covega Corporation, a leading provider of state-of-the-art, opto-electronic components and subsystems for the cable television, industrial, medical, military and telecommunications industries, today announced a new fixed chirp modulator integrated with a Variable Optical Attenuator (VOA) for optical data transport systems.
The modulator is based on Covega’s ultra-stable Lithium Niobate technology and is hermetically packaged in an industry leading small form factor package. This device, like all Covega products, helps the user to achieve significant cost savings and enhanced operability in a telecom system environment.

“The integrated Mach-Zehnder optical modulator VOA product in a small form factor package (65 mm) enables a wide range of applications in telecommunications systems,” said Ganesh Gopalakrishnan, Chief Technology Officer, Covega Corporation. “This new product has been engineered to meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.”

“The new modulator is reflective of Covega’s commitment to technology excellence,” added Dan Petrescu, President & Chief Sales Officer of Covega. “Covega customers benefit from having access to our suite of Telcordia-compliant modulation solutions that encompass devices for conventional, as well as advanced modulation formats.”

Covega Lithium Niobate modulators can be used as external modulators for transmission modules in optical networking and CATV.
